Shawn's Story

Shawn had previously been staying at the Dorothy Day house after he got out of rehab. It helped him turn his life around. He got into low income housing and had been taking care of his apartment for the last 6 months. Shawn found out that his kid is going to come and spend the summer with him, and he knew that his apartment was not big enough for the both. Shawn decided to sign on with a different lease, and his original landlord said he would let Shawn out of his lease if he could find someone else to fill the spot.

Phil at the Dorothy Day house had been working a full-time job for a while and trying to find an apartment to call his own. Phil got the good news that he was “The top Applicant” for Shawn’s old apartment. Phil said that this was the first time he had ever been the top for anything and was exhilarated to know that he would soon be moving out of the house and onto his own.
