Transitional Housing
Churches United's Transitional Housing Program (THP) provides rent assistance and supportive services to assist families and single individuals transition from homelessness to attaining and maintaining permanent housing.
THP residents:
- Pay at least 30% of their gross annual income for rent with adjustments given for utilities.
- Receive intensive Case Management Support, meeting a minimum of 1 time weekly with program staff.
- Can receive finanical assistance for rent and supportive services for up to 24 months.
- Can receive up to 6 months of follow-up case management support.
- Participants sign leases with scattered site landlords and are expected to abide by the apartment lease.
- Tenants are required to abide by the Transitional Housing contract, which includes being free of any illegal activity, sobriety, free of violence, and working diligently towards individualized goals, as set by the participant with direction and support from the TH case manager.
Eligibility: Clients must meet the federal definition of homeless and be willing to participate in the Transitional Housing Program. Preference would be given to those coming out of CUFH's emergency shelter and those who are "Hardest to House". There are no residency requirements.
How you could help! Although state and federal grant funds provide a majority of support for this program, CUFH is required to provide match funds for supportive services and operations. Additionaly, federal funds have not increased over the past five years to accomodate for rent, insurance and staffing costs of living.
You could support this vital program in the following manner:
- Partner with this program by renting apartments to participants (Clay county, preferably Moorhead)
- Give donations of household items or cash. Any monetary donation can be specified, for example, bus passes or school supplies, etc.
- Volunteer your time.
- Be a part of the Churches United general membership board or TH advisory committee.
- Keep us in your prayers.
Program needs list: Each year, Transitional Housing outfits an average of seven apartments. When the client moves on to permanent housing, they are able to keep any of the items given to them. This means the program always needs the following gently used or new items. Sorry but we are not able to pick up donations.
